Riviera Style Lecture with Dr Christine Boydell

The Festival of Fabric welcomes back the fantastic Dr Christine Boydell, specialist in Mid-20C Fashion and Textiles. Dr Chris will be giving a Lecture entitled ‘Riviera Style: Resort and Swimwear since 1900’ following a wonderful exhibition of the same name originally hosted by the Fashion and Textile Museum in London. There will be garments to delight and amaze to illustrate the significant changes in leisurewear during this fascinating time period. You can always pop down to the seafront in Felixstowe for a quick dip if you feel inspired too – brrrr!!!

Sewing Machine Maintenance with Mr Tim

Spend time with Mr Tim, The Sewing Machine Doctor, and learn how to maintain a sewing machine – you’ll have it purring like a kitten!

Buckles and belts with Felixstowe Sewing School

This session is led by Mrs Bowden of Felixstowe Sewing School.  Using hand and machine techniques, create a sample belt using specialist haberdashery. Suitable for slide or pronged buckles. It really will add the finishing touch to your frocks and finery! Suitable for all levels, involves hand stitching. Inclusive of all resources and tea/cake.

Vintage French Cockades and Silk Rosettes with Scarlett Valentine

Join Sarah Valentine, of Scarlett Valentine Millinery, to create the most sumptuous rosettes and corsages using traditional millinery techniques; learn how to ombre dye ribbon and fold it into delicious accessories. Involves hand sewing. Includes all resources to make two rosettes/corsages as well as tea/cake!

Fashion on the Ration; CC41 with Bunty Bowring

This fun History of Fashion Lecture is led by Bunty Bowring, Re-enactor and 40’s specialist. Let Bunty take you through Fashion on the Ration during WWII, the history of clothes, fabric and utility rationing, the introduction of the CC41 label and how people ‘made do and mended’ during the war years. Bunty will be sharing her considerable collection of CC41 with the audience so you can get up close and have a good look at these fabulous items.
