About us

The Festival of Fabric was borne from an idea that had bubbled away in the back of Amanda’s mind for quite some time.  Amanda, with her husband Tim, are the proprietors of Felixstowe Sewing School in the quaint seaside town situated on the Suffolk coast.

Amanda trained in Fashion and Textiles and also spent many years teaching Textiles in Suffolk schools before setting up her Sewing School in March 2013.  Tim (photographer and sewing machine mechanic extraordinaire) and Amanda share a passion for sewing, vintage clothing, music, good home baking and shopping! They have managed to combine all of these passions into the Festival of Fabric.  The concept is to bring together specialist retailers with a love for and expertise in fabric, haberdashery, dressmaking, knitting and sewing patterns, vintage sewing machines, knitting and crochet accouterments all under one roof.  This gives folks an opportunity to shop for pretty well anything you way want or need to make vintage style clothing (and we don’t mind a bit of ‘modern’in there too!)In addition, Tim and Amanda wanted to give the whole affair a lovely ambiance by having a fab vintage DJ, a jolly good pop up cafe and an exhibition of clothing, fashion accessories and loveliness from times gone by.  To top it all they also wanted to provide an opportunity for visitors to participate in sewing and crafting workshops with a vintage feel by employing wonderful teachers. It all sounds dreamy doesn’t it?

Amanda has been amazed by the support offered so far and even more bowled over by the marvelous variety of traders operating in the East Anglia region.  There are specialist fabric sellers, original and reproduction pattern traders and more haberdashery than you could shake a stick at as well as contemporary fabric and yarn sellers. These are lovely people who are clearly very comfortable sharing their knowledge and expertise with visitors to the Festival.

Amanda and Tim want to emphasis that this is not a purist event –it’s for anybody who is interested in making clothes especially if they have a penchant for vintage style; sewn, knitted and crocheted, or for those who just like a good opportunity for a rummage and a good cup of tea and slice of something heavenly in a fun and inspiring environment.
